The International Air Transport Association's (IATA) Regulations on "Dangerous Substances and Articles" defines nine classes of Dangerous Goods that are prohibited for transportation by air:

1. Explosives
2. All gases (flammable, refrigerated or non-flammable, poisonous)
3. Highly flammable liquids;
4. Flammable solids
5. Oxidizing agents and organic peroxides
6. Poisonous and infectious substances
7. Radioactive materials
8. Corrosive substances
9. Other (miscellaneous) dangerous substances which do not fall into any other category of the class.
Examples: Lithium metal batteries, lithium ion batteries, dry ice, airbags, strong magnetizers, etc.

! Items of significant cultural, historical or artistic value may not be exported from the Republic of Latvia without the permission of the State Inspection for the Protection of Cultural Monuments.
! It is prohibited to send plants without appropriate phytosanitary documents in postal items.
